After a few weeks of training hard on the Kaag water and practicing their 'renewed' start, our ladies A crew needed a challenge. In training everything feels very good, but is this really the case?!? So ... on to the always hospitable and friendly Gig Club Muiden for a solid training with their mens A crew: Royal Forces (16th overall last WPGC). It was our ladies first experience this year on wavy water, which resulted in the beginning for some distraction and turmoil in the boat. But after a few times 100 strokes at full power (with a strong wind against) they came together nicely. Followed up by a race against the men of Royal Forces, to simulate the 'real' competitive edge. To the great satisfaction of our Scheveningen Ladies A crew, the men of Royal Forces were not very far ahead of them at all. (see video, start of the 'race' around 33 sec.) On the way back to Muiden, they hit some nice waves to 'surf with a gig': 14.9 km / h (8.04 knots!). What a great experience. Not yet 100% ready for WPGC 2010 but getting close.
